I have started making again now in preparation for craft fairs starting in March. I have three new collections starting that I'm quite excited about! I'm itching to get them all finished and photographed so I can upload the images to my website....
My first collection is the Silver Budgie work. It is exactly what it sounds like. Lots of small, hand pierced silver Budgies. Earrings, brooches, and necklaces. It's been difficult to get them to look right, a budgies head is unusually difficult to get right! But I think that with a little bit of practice I've got the shapes right now and I can begin to work away making little tweeters!
My Second collection reflects my love and fascination with collecting buttons. It's also my first large scale casting attempt. So now I have lots of little silver buttons dotted about waiting to be made into earrings, rings and necklaces. Because I can cast as many buttons as I need to at one time I now want to start thinking about different combinations so that the collection can grow and slowly change.
Lastly, my Baroque collection will soon be taking shape. Lots of baroque shapes being hand pierced out of silver, along with some baroque style Swarovski crystals to create some more statement necklaces and earrings. I can't wait to get cracking on this project! I just hope I have time to finish making them all before the craft fairs arrive!!
Ok, so I'm a tiny bit late, but I'm back to it now. Lots of work to be done now, ready for fairs starting again in March. This week I've been cutting out and stitching together lots and lots of small felt budgies to make brooches out of and I have to say, I LOVE them to bits! I love them as if they were my own children! I've also been working on a silver version of these budgie brooches today in my workshop. I'm not bowled over by the silver version yet, but with a little bit of practice and tweaks here and there, I'm sure the silver ones will grow on me too. I think tomorrow might be another afternoon spent in the workshop, testing out ideas and soldering like mad.
I desperately want the silver budgies to work!!
Also today I've noticed my small space on the sock fair website appear. Thats always exciting, seeing your name and work on someone else website. check out the link here if you wish!
See you soon!
I was at the Manor House, West Bromwich over the weekend and it went really well! Thank you to everyone who came along. It was great to see some familiar faces as well as some new ones. I had a fab day, and although it was freezing cold I had to re stock the table a few times!
Had a little experiment with a different layout for my table in comparison to my first fair and I think this version is working better. I'd like people to feel welcome to pick things up and perhaps try rings on etc. and I think this display opens it up a little more and is more inviting to the public. If you can see the little image, let me know what you think though!
I can now start my christmas holidays and have a little bit of a rest before I get in gear in the new year, making a new collection for Sock Fair, Loughborough, in March.
Well, here we go! The start of a new blog. The first thing that comes to mind is 'Jo, what should you write?' Any ideas?
Well today has been mostly commission making. A gorgeous green Emerald stone set ring and a beautifully simple circle necklace. They just both need polishing now, but that will have to wait for another day. Once they're finished I promise I'll include some images along with this post!
Also on the agenda today, applying for craft fairs in 2015.... The big art show, Shropshire in July and West Dean Design and Craft fair, Near Chichester in June. With any luck, I'll be accepted for one or maybe both!! I'll keep you posted should I be accepted for either of them.
Signing off for today!
